Dome Needs a Home

Hi BM Friends:

Well, the time has come for the Zebulon Dome to find a new home. Mark Bava and Joegh Bullock have been kind enough to store this dome for us from last Spetember through today. But, now, the time has come for it to be moved, or sold. I will need to hear from some of the key Zeb folks (those who have contributed to the dome in the last 2 or 3 years) on how you would like to proceed. If you want to keep the dome, you would have to pick it up in Sonoma where it is stored and take it to store it. Let me know by May 20 please. If there are no answers, can I then post it for sale? Let me know....please discuss on Tribe versus e-mailing if possible : )

Curtis Coleman needs your help.

Dear Friends,

Our best friend is dying, We are sad as hell, and We are asking for your help. Now is the time to show that “community ”and “connections ”mean a lot more than just bopping around at late-night parties together.

Our friend ’s name is Curtis Coleman. He gives a lot to the world, and we desperately need what he gives. He runs the Cult of E.R.I.C. village at Burning Man and a member of the Pagoda of Infinite Reflection this year on the playa. Last year, he was the nation ’s most popular elementary school entertainer, reaching tens of thousands of young kids through song to teach them about safety, public spirit, and most importantly, that they have a voice. We need our children to find their voice.

Curtis now has no voice, fighting an aggressive cancer in his throat called squamous cell carcinoma. Soon Curtis will have neck dissection surgery, plus aggressive radiation & chemo. On paper his chances of survival are less than 1 in 4, but cancer victims facing far worse odds have been “miraculously ”cured when enough people came together to make it happen. We do amazing things together within our respective families, so please, please participate in saving Curtis ’life and prove we can do amazing things together within our community.

So many of you know Curtis, are stunned by this news, and have already asked how you can help. Some of Curtis ’closest friends have put together a plan of action we hope everyone connected to Curtis in any way will participate in. We need three things immediately for Curtis: money, time, and love.

Money: Curtis has no insurance, and the most promising medical treatments aren ’t covered by the county ’s last resort coverage. h'ween weekend going ons

The Echo Park Recreation Center appears to have become an artist's space, photo studios, design/print firms, etc. They are having some sort o' shindig, costumes, etc. Just met a bunch of people inc Burners who will be attending. It's located on the south side of Sunset between Alvarado/Glendale and Echo Park Blvd's. When i get home tonight I will dig up the invite and post more DETAILS!!!

Anyone know of FREE parties?! Cuz otherwise I'm going to my friends in Hollywood to watch scary movies, whilst drinking libations, scaring people with my horns (thxs to Briana)....

And then there is always Mutaytor at the West Hollywood street parade thing.

WOW needs help

Hey Zebulon! Carly from PlanetWOW here...

First, I want to say how thankful I personally was to have Zebulon join forces with WOW this year. Since WOW is mostly made up of Bay Area folks, I sometimes feel a little out of the loop being down here in LA. So how great it was to hook up with a group of cool LA folks this year! Your collective energy, beautiful dome, the magic fingers & spirit of the Naked Gourmet, and many more contributions than I can name here were MUCH APPRECIATED! I made a bunch of new friends and look forward to getting to know you all much better in the future...

Second, I want to let you know about some issues WOW has been facing post-Burning Man. Let me be clear that no one from WOW asked me to reach out to Zebulon and in fact, Kitty and Frank (Empress and Emperor of WOW) were willing to eat the budgetary deficit themselves in order to avoid asking the WOW group or any other for more money above and beyond the $100 dues, but seems to me that as a community, we shouldn't allow such a large burden to fall on one couple's shoulders when they've already contributed so much.

Here's a letter Miss Kitty recently wrote to WOW:

Greetings Wowsters,

Here's a synopsis of putting this year to rest (hopefully) so we can move on to even more wonderful times. We did a lot with a little -- we can be very proud of ourselves -- earning our WOW every step of the way!

Big thanks to everyone -- to our Platinum Sponsors Pat & Steph and Feral and I. Thanks to all of you who pitched in extra already, and to everyone who paid the dues. This is really the way to go -- everyone helped make it happen!

Several things came in more expensive than were originally quoted -- notably the generator, biodeisel and distro. If not for these overages we would be right on target. There were also expenses not accounted for here that Joegh picked up thru the August fundraiser he produced, and several hundred Goz put into the sound system from the fundraiser he did in July.

So unless I'm overlooking any further bills (if so speak up right away), this leaves a deficit of $2,150.

Frank and I will pick up $1,000 of this. We really need to see the community making up the rest. A few of you have pledged $100, $20 -- WHATEVER YOU CAN AFFORD IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!! And tax deductible - we'll get those receipts out shortly. PLEASE SEND $$$ BY OCT 9 so we can be done with it by SF Decompression! THANK YOU!

If the generosity flows freely and we have an abundance, it will go into a special account to seed-fund next year. We can only hope to plant the seeds now for a good harvest next year on the playa! We hope to set up our own non-profit shortly.

I LOVE the round bed idea!!! Awesome about the lazy susan thingy too! You may want to check in with Marcy and Marc about this stuff as I know they will have to spec out the space in the dome before we add anything. Plus, we do want to Feng Shui it---that would mean keeping clear lines of energy---no
blocking the dome space with hard poles, lines, beams, etc. : )

Benjamin (that's me) and friends will be serving Gourmet, 100% ORGANIC and Vegan Friendly Divine Nourishment for Breakfast and Dinner from Sunday evening (Aug 29) to Sunday morning (Sep 5). Meeting Notes July 15

Below are the highlights and cliff notes from our meeting last week. LOTS OF CRITICAL STUFF : )

TO WOW OR NOT TO WOW
More on this subject. At the time of the meeting, all agreed that we would not camp with Wow if asked to cap off below about 50 and we would be required to pay additional assessment beyond our own. Since that time, Wow discussed our concept and seem to really like it. We are negotiating two keys things

1) Are there economies of scale on the budget we can both share within our groups? In other words, they have to rent a truck from LA and we have to rent a truck from LA---can we rent one and split the cost? Another example, they will let us just plug into their power strip and we could save on any added generator costs.
2) They may want to put us right on the Esplanade. This could be very cool for some and some may want to be more "out of the way." Either way, we would have street access from Wow.

We are still talking. We would not go over our original assessment fee of $55 bucks a head.

CONCEPT AND QUESTIONS FOR WOW
Wow: What kind of telescope does Andrew have and is it in SF or somewhere else?

BUDGET
The budget needs to cover the following:
- $1000 to execute the dome concept. This would go to making plastic boxes to hold Marc and Marcy's VERY costly and professional equipment so it does not get damaged, to creating content, getting materials, etc.
- $600 for a LA truck rental to tow Ganesh, pick up storage (and Joe) and house the equipment. We may be able to go in with Wow on this one
- $400 Gas to tow Ganesh
- $ 800 Storage Fees
- $100 Shower materials
- $200 Water

This totals about $3100, or $68 per person at 45 people. We would need to cut this budget by about $600 right now.

SHOWERS
David and Wayne: We are in need of a status on this one....what is the shower plan? We assume we will need power to run the pump, right? How about water supply? Nature Boy has offered to make a water run at "half time" which is awesome, but do we need to budget more money for barrels? How about materials?

TRASH
We are asking you all p,an to bring as much PAPER product as possible this year---this includes burnable cups, plates, bowls, etc. The less plastic, glass and foil and stuff, the better. We want to use burlap trash bags and burn the trash as much as needed. We will still need to have non-burnables and we need a volunteer to manage trash this year. All greed better signage is needed this year!!!

Wayne, do you have the CAD drawing of the dome you can send to Marc and Marcy? marc@personalcreations.net

KITCHEN
Everyone really loved a central kitchen last year and want to try and do it again this year. All agreed Marie worked too much last year and WE MUST WORK TOGETHER TO NOT LET THAT HAPPEN AGAIN THIS YEAR. It was agreed we did not properly train "newbies" and latecomers on the kitchen rules. THIS YEAR, WE NEED SIGNAGE. The biggest challenge is the dish washing stations. Last year, they were over-filled, dirty and we have nowhere to put the dirty water. Even though people scraped their plates and simply rinsed, the water was still too dirty to dump. Any ideas? Please POST TO TRIBE.

We will still do our annual PIZZA NIGHT on Tuesday---whether we Wow or not.

TO WOW OR NOT TO WOW
There are some outstanding questions as to whether or not we will camp within the boundaries of Wow, or on the "fourth" ring out just past Wow, Mystic Beat Lounge and Otter Camp (who are all three camping in a row going BACK from the esplanade). Mark Bava should know more on whether we have the option to camp on the BACKSIDE of WOW----this would put us facing First street with an entrance from First. They said it has usually been very peaceful in this location but with the benefits of being with Wow people (who are seemingly very cool : ) )

The other option will be to camp just beyond the three camps in our own "land grabbed" quadrant.

The challenge is capacity. Right now, it looks like Zebulon will have about 45 people. Wow will have to see if they can accommodate us, or not.

THE CONCEPT

The final concept we liked most was to be a mini part of Wow...or, better said a WWWEEEE part of Wow....or even better said....just....WWWWWEEEEEE! A Small taste of Wow. We thought it would be fun to play off of our Big Bro camp and execute the idea below:

Project "a mini heaven" into the dome on a large screen (either the full ring of the done or an odd--shaped cut screen) Two options were discussed: 1) The first was to try and hook a telescope to a projector and project the actual night sky into the dome. 2) The second is to create a 30 minute loop of similar content. Both would be accompanied by music. The dome would be a kick back chill space----a mini planetarium. Wow Camp has a world renowned astronomer that may even do a special talk on the stars inside the dome one night. This is a cool idea because we can USE the dome to kick back in during the day and it would be a cool community site at night for all weary heaven travelers.

Marcy and Marc could pull off the projection and power, etc. They would need to team on site to help set up and strike.

We also discussed doing "wee" little cups for drinks when people arrived to visit our small heaven as well as small mini snack foods (chocolate stars made from candy plates we create or pull out Lucky Charms).

A suspended bed for two under the heavens suspended from the dome was thrown out as an idea.

An alter of the heavens was also discussed as a side idea for inside the dome

ART CARS
We have estimated about $600 to get Ganesh up to Burning Man. If we have roughly 30 people, this equates to $20 a piece. Are we willing to throw in $20 for Ganesh, plus another $30 for water and storage? That is a $50 assessment per person.

The plus is that Ganesh is SO MUCH FUN and GREAT FOR NIGHT TRAVEL AROUND THE PLAYA....who is game?

If we choose not to pay, we will be giving Ganesh away this year as we can not afford to keep him: (.......

One idea for Ganesh: Marc has always wanted to do "Guerrilla projection," or projection from the art car that would "sneak" up on camps and people!!! If we keep Ganesh, this may be an option. Think of much we could fondly F@%# with people who are tripping!!!! FUN, FUN, FUN!!!!

KITCHENS AND TRASH

Please bring BURLAP sacks for trash. Two sacks per person. Please bring as much paper product versus plastics, etc, as possible. We can then burn regularly and have less trash

As for the kitchen, there will still be a community eating area. There will also be wash basins. Small groups should arrange for their own mini-kitchens, but the community kitchen will be available.

Do's:
Come prepared. Read the BURNING MAN SURVIVAL GUIDE....if you're bringing "newbie's" help them prepare.
Bring only biodegradable products.
Take home all waste that you create.

Don'ts:
Do NOT waste.
Do NOT pee in the evaporation pool.

OK.

After much begging and pleading (and minor attempts at
self-mutilation) to try and persuade Shiho and I NOT
to give up or crowns as Zebulon Queens---you have
inspired, convinced,blackmailed us into taking the
reigns, once again this year!!! However, we will not
go it alone!!! With trust Wayne, Joe, Billie Million
and his trusty first mate Charlie joining us at the
helm...not mention Mistress Aissa and Kitchen Goddess
Marie (ok, bad joke, I know, Marie)..along with the
ever-calm and guiding David Daunch, spicy Kelly Kelly
(are you up for more backward, booty sporting dance
moves, Kel)and Santa Barbara Say!---and of course, our
own Chef Naked Gourmet---and EVERYONE ELSE---we are
READY TO FUCKING RUMBLE AGAIN THIS YEAR!!!

Here are the minutes from the first---albeit very
early---(proper prior planning) Zebulon Meeting (do
you ever notice how creative and alive I am at the
beginning of this process....then, as time goes
by....):

COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER
Because I love to communicate : ), I will hold my
title as Communications Ho this year. E-mail will
keep coming, but we also now have a "tribe." So, if
you did not receive your evite, e-mail Shiho....(I
predict that "e-mail Shiho" will come up over 7,000
times between now and the end of August). Notes will
be posted there as well. And you tribe freaks can
chat and post and chat and post away. As fro me, I
never really do there...so be sure and e-mail me
should you need anything urgently.

CORE GROUP
Do we still need this? The original idea was to have
a small group of people who want to be VERY involved
and could make the faster decisions and be the final
word. Do we like that? If so, how many should we
have in the Core Group this year? Last year, we had
six, I think.

PLANETS OF ZEBULON
In keeping with the BM theme, we will take on the name
Planets of Zebulon. It will work just like last
year....we will have mini camps within our larger
infrastructure. We will have the larger community
area dome and a large community kitchen and/or dining
area.

THE ART CARS
We are down to one as the Shag Wagon is now defunct
(and for sale, I believe). The fabulous Ganesh will
return---better than ever. Billie needs help and
cash. So, anything you can do to pitch in, please do.
It costs almost $600 in gas just to get the Ganesh up
to BM...so, if you enjoyed the comforts of not having
to walk the playa and want to ride the Ganesh, please
stash away $5 a week to contribute fro gas. Contact
Bill for offers to help build.

WHAT WE LOVED ABOUT LAST YEAR
1) Our location---trying to keep the same area
2) The turnaround driveway---we will plan to spec out
enough space to have this again
3) The shower, minus the freebie people who helped
themselves
4) Pizza night!!!

WHAT WE WOULD LIKE HELP ON THAT MAYBE, WELL, JUST
DIDN'T WORK LAST YEAR ALL THAT PERFECTLY---SHALL WE
SAY : )
1) The kitchen---it was a darn mess all the time and
poor Marie kept cleaning and cleaning....that just can
not happen this year!! Here are some ideas:
- Have a central dining area but each mini camp area
has their own "satellite" kitchen
- Have more volunteers to run the kitchen --- just not
enough dishwashers and caretakers
- Have a wheel to spin for daily chores and everyone
has to be there every morning to get their chore (this
one is fun but will never work : ) )
- MORE IDEAS????
2) The shower was great to have, but the evaporation
process did not work. Plus, we need to move the
shower location to be more "inside" the layout of the
camp. Wayne and Dave Daunch to manage this...
3) Trash. Well, this just plain sucked. We need
ideas...maybe satellite trash???
